Background & Acquisition

In February 2010, I collected my Lamborghini Countach LP500 S from Alistair at EborgGT in York. The car had spent the previous seven years in Monaco, accumulating only minimal mileage each year. As a rare right-hand drive example—one of only 25 UK-delivered LP500 S cars—it was returned to the UK by its owner and offered for sale

I viewed the car as it arrived, completely unprepared, allowing me to assess its true condition and decide on the improvements needed. I chose to drive and gradually restore the car, enjoying the process as part of my ownership journey.

Early Ownership & Improvements

After an initial mechanical run-through—replacing the usual high-tension leads, distributor, and other essentials—the LP500 S was running strongly and ready for its first adventure. That inaugural trip was a European road tour with friends, taking the car back to Monaco, its home for the previous seven years.

European Adventures

In 2013, Lamborghini celebrated its 50th anniversary with the Grand Giro, and the Countach was the perfect companion for another memorable Euro trip. Despite a minor incident involving an Austrian LP400, the event was fantastic. The car was even used by close friends during the Lamborghini family celebrations before spending a couple of weeks parked at the Columbus Hotel, giving me the opportunity to enjoy Monaco during the Grand Prix weekend.

The return journey to the UK was eventful, including a seven-hour delay at the Channel Tunnel for Dave Bell, adding yet another colourful story to the car’s travels.

Recent Highlights

Lamborghini did not organise a formal 60th anniversary event in 2023, so Countach owners took matters into their own hands, planning a European drive back to the factory. The timing coincided with the Gumball 3000 rally, which started in Edinburgh. We joined the convoy down through the UK alongside the Gumball and a 2022 Countach LP700, making for an unforgettable road trip.
